Ericsson launches WAP phone

JAKARTA (JP): Sweden-based mobile telecoms company Ericsson Indonesia launched on Tuesday its first Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) mobile telephone, the Ericsson R320s.

The company said customers using the post paid billing service from the country's GSM operators would be able to use the R320s phone to access information from the Internet provided by WAP- based content provider GSmart.

Information available on the phone includes weather, theater and flight schedules, stocks, foreign exchange and e-mail.

The phone, which is a mere 1.5 centimeters thin and weighs 95 grams, has an in-built modem and infrared communication capabilities as well as other basic features. (cst)
