Entertainment spot damaged

TANGERANG (JP): At least 1,000 residents of Ciledug district
here attacked an entertainment spot on Thursday night because it
had allegedly been used as a prostitution den.

No fatalities were reported in the attack.

Maryoto, one of the vandals, said the attack on the Medan
singing hall and restaurant began at about 9 p.m.

"The attack was planned a long time ago by the residents who
were disturbed by the existence of the entertainment spot,"
Maryoto said on Friday.

He said the residents had objected to the operator of the
amusement spot but their complaint was ignored.

"We want the mayoralty to close down the entertainment spot
because it has been used as a prostitution den," he said.

Tangerang Police chief Lt. Col. Pudji Hartanto deplored the
attack.

"The residents should have delivered their complaints to
officials without damaging the spot," Pudji said. (41/jun)
