Employer sued for lost fingers

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Apsal Hendrik, a 30-year-old worker who lost three of his right-hand fingers in a work accident, is suing his former employer for neglecting work safety measures, Antara reported yesterday.

The case is being tried at the Medan District Court. The prosecutor said Apsal fainted due to a loss of blood after his fingers were severed by a plastic cutting machine in May last year. He had to be hospitalized at the Deli Hospital.

The 45-year-old employer, identified only as A.S., reportedly did not insure his workers so that Apsal had to pay his own medical expenses. Apsal was dismissed after losing weeks of work due to the accident, the prosecutor said.

The case was adjourned until Monday. (swe)
