Employees of BII on strike

JAKARTA (JP): Employees picket the Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) headquarters on Jl. M.H. Thamrin, Central Jakarta for a second straight day on Tuesday to demand better pay from the management.

After negotiations between the union representatives and the bank's management, it was eventually agreed that a pay rise would be awarded in March but would be backdated to February.

"The formula for the raise will be determined by a working group and will refer to the previous agreement between the parties," BII's managing director for law and compliance Fransiska Oei said in a joint press statement with the union on Tuesday.

"The union calls on employees across the country to stop the protest and resume their normal duties following the agreement," the statement also said.(dja)
