Emergency law
Emergency law
I sent a letter to the editor of The Jakarta Post in which I
proposed that the government start thinking about proclaiming an
emergency law (in Dutch: SOB), because of the worsening
situation.
In my original text, printed on June 30, the sentence read:
"This cannot continue and I think it is not wrong if the
government starts thinking of proclaiming an emergency
situation."
The editor changed it in such a way that the opposite is
written as follows: "I think it would be quite wrong for the
government to consider..."
I accept the rule that letters are subject to editing, but if
the meaning is changed completely, I think I have the right to
ask for your attention to change it.
In addition, I read a letter by Srikandi from Bogor, West
Java, printed on the same day as mine. It is about Tutty Alawiah,
a minister of the Development and Reform Cabinet, whose voice is
hardly "every" heard. I think every should have been changed to
ever.

Note: Thank you for your letter. We regret the missing word "not"
in the sentence. With regard to the second case, the word "every"
should be "ever." We apologize for the mistake.
