Embassy hosts conferences

JAKARTA (JP): The Canadian Embassy is organizing a series of business conferences next week to bolster trade and investment relations between the two countries in post-crisis Indonesia.

The first conference will be held at the Regent Hotel in Jakarta on March 20-21 and the second at the Sahid Raya Hotel in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on March 22-24, the embassy said in a statement on Friday.

Sectoral issues including mining and energy, consulting engineering and environment, informatics and telecommunications, agribusiness and biotechnology, furniture, handicraft and textile industries will be covered in the conferences.

Several Indonesian Cabinet ministers will join the sessions in Jakarta which will see participation of prominent Canadian and Indonesian business people.

To commemorate 50 years of relationships between the two countries, the Indonesian Canada Chamber of Commerce will launch a book entitled Canada Indonesia, Into the New Millennium and present Business Excellence Awards 2000 to Indonesian and Canadian companies which have excelled over the last year.
