Embarrassing

The rejection of a series of interruptions from regional representatives of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) -- the country's top law-making body -- led to a brawl during the first day of the plenary meeting of the MPR's annual session.

The clash occurred due to the rejection of the regional representatives' demand that their faction be recognized by the MPR. It occurred shortly after MPR Speaker Amien Rais concluded his address.

The televised clash was seen by millions of Indonesians, even by the international community.

What can be expected from the political elite who are not really elite? What can be learned from the people's distinguished representatives who are not really distinguished?

Their behavior has not set a good example in terms of political education. They have taught us that conflict cannot be solved in a civilized manner, but in an uncivilized one.
