Elvis night at Hotel Indonesia

JAKARTA (JP): A 1960s music night is to be held at Hotel Indonesia in Central Jakarta tomorrow night in commemoration of the 23th anniversary of legendary singer Elvis Presley's death.

The party, held by Delta Wahana, an entertainment and showbiz company, is titled History of 60's. It will feature Indonesian singers impersonating Elvis, Tom Jones, Conny Francis, the Beatles and the Bee Gees, the organizing committee said yesterday.

The singers will be accompanied by an orchestra led by Abadi Soesman, an Indonesian musician well-known in the 1960s.

Hotel Indonesia, the first star-rated hotel in the city, was chosen as the venue for the party to enable Elvis' fans to meet old friends and exchange nostalgic memories, the committee said.

The proceeds from the celebration, which is expected to be attended by several ministers, will be donated to the Indonesian Asthma Foundation, which is chaired by wife of Public Works Minister Radinal Moochtar. (hhr)
