Elsham wins international award
JAYAPURA, Papua: Human rights group Elsham Papua has won an international accolade for defending human rights.
The acting chairman of Elsham Papua, Aloysius Renwarin, said that the accolade came from the Regional Rights Resource Team, which is affiliated with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). "Elsham has won the Organization Category. We won the Pacific area award, as the team has appreciated our work in defending human rights in Papua," said Renwarin, adding that it was the first award received by the organization. Elsham was established in 1998.
The rights group was presented with a certificate and a cash award of 2,000 Fiji dollars, which was handed over to Elsham representative Rex Rumakiek at a ceremony held in Fiji last February. -- JP
