Eleven die in road accidents

CIREBON, West Java: Eleven people have been killed, nine
seriously injured, and 20 others were slightly injured over the
past week throughout the province, the police said yesterday.

Over the past week, police recorded 15 traffic accidents in
Bandung, Indramayu, Purwakarta, Subang, and Serang, spokesman for
the West Java Police headquarters Lt. Col. Istanto J. said.

On a separate occasion, chief of the Purwakarta police
precinct Col. Suyitno L.S. said the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road
has had an increase in the number of vehicles using the road
since last Thursday.

He said 24,342 vehicles were recorded on Feb. 23, down to
22,064 the next day, but up again to 35,753 and 30,490 on Feb. 25
and 26, respectively.

Suyitno, however, said that the number of vehicles using the
toll road was still lower than last year when 50,000 vehicles
were recorded over the same period. (imn)
