Election money frauds

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Kendari Regent H.A. Razak Porosi promised to punish an unscrupulous employee who had allegedly stolen Rp 187 million (US$77,916) of general election funds, Antara reported.

The identity of the unscrupulous staff member was revealed only as AM, the treasurer of the regency election committee, which Porosi chaired.

"The authorities had handled the case," Porosi said, adding that he knew nothing about how the crime had been committed because it was the regional supervisory body that discovered it.

A. Djabar Pelaga, the head of the supervisory body, said the case had been submitted to the district prosecutor's office.

The regency election committee received Rp 559 million from the government to conduct the election. (swe)
