Eight policemen face tribunal

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Eight policemen will be court martialled for their involvement in a recent incident in which two people were shot dead and one critically injured.

Their dossiers were submitted to the South Kalimantan military police command yesterday, Antara reported.

The incident happened in Birayang Timur village, in Hulu Sungai Tengah district, on Feb. 10 when the officers raided a cock-fighting den.

Spokesman for the South Kalimantan police command Lt. Col. S. Siregar said the suspects' ranks were captain, first lieutenant, second lieutenant and second sergeant.

"Their trials will prove that we are serious about fighting crime," he said, adding that he hoped the case would start soon. (pan)
