Eight police officers dismissed

BOGOR: After their superiors were dismissed following the escape of eight detainees, eight police officers at Cisarua police subprecinct who were on duty when the group fled, also lost their jobs at the office and were placed in custody.

A source at the Bogor police precinct confirmed on Tuesday that the eight police officers were incarcerated due to the break-out.

The original detainees, all suspects in major robbery cases, escaped from their cells from the roof of their cell on Friday night.

Soon after the escape, head of the Cisarua police subprecinct First Insp. Napoleon and his deputy Second Insp. Ali Yusak, as well as the head of the Sabhara special police unit, Second Insp. M.E Sinaga, were relieved of their duties.

The escape was the second in Bogor this year. A few months ago a drug suspect escaped from Kedung Halang police subprecinct.

On Tuesday, the situation at the Bogor police station was tense and the officers refused to talk to reporters. "Since the morning roll call, our police chief Adj.Snr.Comr. Bambang Wasgito has been upset. He is angry with all of us," said a policeman.--JP
