Eight overpasses, tunnels planned
In order to alleviate traffic problems in some areas notorious
for traffic congestion, the city administration plans to
construct another eight overpasses and underpasses, a city
official has said.
Soeharto, the head of the City Public Works Office, said
Monday that the eight overpasses and underpasses to be built
include Karet overpass, Jatibaru overpass, Salemba underpass,
and Pasar Pagi overpass.
"The construction cost of the projects range from Rp 8 billion
to Rp 15 billion per route," Soeharto said.
The City Public Works Office has built eight overpasses and
underpasses in the city since 1992, including the Sahardjo
overpass in South Jakarta, the Dukuh Atas overpass in Central
Jakarta, the Pramuka and Kampung Melayu overpasses in East
Jakarta and the Rasuna Said tunnel in the Kuningan area, South
Jakarta.
"Nine underpasses and overpasses under construction include DI
Panjaitan underpass and Buaran overpass in East Jakarta, Tanah
Abang underpass and Senen overpass in Central Jakarta and
Kebayoran overpass in South Jakarta," Soeharto said.
Soeharto said that the development of the 25 underpasses and
overpasses by the city administration, in line with the Jakarta
Urban Development Project, were expected to be completed by 1997.
The road projects, Soeharto said, do not include underpass and
overpass projects built by private contractors such as those
located along the new toll road parallel to Jl. TB. Simatupang in
South Jakarta and the ones constructed and financed by the
Ministry of Public Works. (has)
