Eight golfers named for Taiwan c'ships
JAKARTA (JP): A huge field of more than 300 local golfers battled out their skills for the eight seats available to represent their country for the Asia Mercedes Trophy championship in Taipei next month.
The eight winners were selected through a one-day competition held at the plush par-72 Jagorawi Golf and Country Club over the weekend. Alex Syafri and Jerum Choi topped the flight A contestants each with 20 and 19 points respectively.
The flight B winners were Ishak Bunjamin (38), who played for Indonesia in the final in Germany last year, and Hendrianto (38). Serian (24) and Rizal (22) were the champs in the flight C while Hadidarma Kosasih carded 34 points and Dewanto bagged 37 points and became the victors in the flight D.
The winners in the selection were decided over the highest points they collected in each group on the Stableford counting system.
A birdie was awarded with three points, an even par worth two points and a bogey worth one point.
"Winners and second finishers of each group qualified for the Mercedes Benz Asian Final at Ta Shee Resort in Taipei on Aug. 18 - 19," said Joachim Manheimer, Marketing Director of PT Star Motors Indonesia.
Hopefully, Manheimer said, Ishak Bunjamin would be able to score better than last year. (rsl)
