Eight arrested for car mirror theft

JAKARTA (JP): City Police Mobile Detectives have arrested eight people in the past two weeks for allegedly stealing 10 sets of rearview mirrors from luxury cars during traffic jams.

City police chief of detectives, Col. Alex Bambang Riatmodjo, said six teenagers and two adults had been arrested near eight intersections in the capital following reports filed by city residents in the past two months.

"This case has received particular attention from National Police chief Lt. Gen. Rusdihardjo and city police chief Maj. Gen. Nurfaizi. The suspects are a menace to society," Alex told reporters.

"The mirrors come from luxury cars like the BMW, Mercedes, Cherokee jeep, Volvo sedan and others. Of the eight suspects, seven stole the sets and one sold them."

The suspects were arrested near Jl. Raya Tugu Tani in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Jl. Raya Pintu Air in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta, Jl. Raya Jembatan Merah in Central Jakarta, Jl. Raya Stasiun Kota (Beos) in West Jakarta, Jl. Raya Ancol Pademangan, North Jakarta, Jl. Bank Danamon Blok M, South Jakarta and Jl. Raya Perintis Kemerdekaan in North Jakarta.

Alex identified the suspects as BR, 16, a resident of Johar Baru, Central Jakarta; Mm, 16, a resident of Pulogadung, East Jakarta; So, 12, a resident of Kelapa Gading, East Jakarta; He, 12, a resident of Johar Baru, Central Jakarta; Su, 15, a resident of Kelapa Gading, East Jakarta, YW, 13, a resident of Senen, Central Jakarta, Thio Giok Ho, alias Anton, 45, a resident of Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta; and Aep Saefulloh, 45, also a resident of Grogol Petamburan.
