Eight archers to compete in Asian GP

JAKARTA: Eight Indonesian archers will compete in the 1st ASEAN Championship to be held from Dec. 26 to Dec. 30 in Myanmar, according to an official of the Indonesian Archery Association (Perpani).

While the list has yet to be confirmed, Perpani's secretary- general Djati Waluyoh said Olympian Rina Dewi Puspitasari and Lockonecko were already assured of their places in the team.

"Given the bad results we got in the International Grand Prix in Germany in June and Turkey in July, we're hoping to get better this time," he said.

He added that the archers would compete in individual and team events but they would be more focused on the team event where they would have bigger opportunities to win a medal.

The Myanmar trip is part of the Perpani's bid to enhance the archers' medal prospect in the 2005 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and the 2006 Asian Games. -- JP
