Eight Africans arrested

JAKARTA: Police arrested eight Africans on Thursday on charges of counterfeiting and overstaying their visas.

The eight Africans, along with two Indonesians, were netted in a police operation against drug dealers.

Two of the suspects were arrested in a room at the Sentra Banyuwangi Hotel in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta, along with several bundles of suspected counterfeit U.S. dollars and a chemical used in the counterfeiting process.

Another two African suspects and the Indonesians were arrested with 30 grams of heroin in a house on Jl. Kiapang in Slipi, West Jakarta.

The remaining four suspects were detained after they failed to produce their passports. One of the suspects had a passport that had expired.

Adj. Sr. Comr. Anjan Pramuka Putra said the foreigners would be charged with immigration offenses, counterfeiting and the possession of drugs. --JP
