Education in morals

As a parent I am concerned with the present behavior of people, especially youngsters who are rude to their parents, teachers and women.

I have witnessed their behavior frequently on city buses, at schools and also in public places. I am concerned that in the future Indonesians will no longer be known for their civilized, friendly and helpful ways.

Of more concern are the violent news items in the media, particularly murder cases involving family members.

In my opinion, this is the result of youngsters' ignorance of old-fashioned morals, manners and customs, which are increasingly on the wane.

I appeal to the Minister of Education and Culture to revive moral education in schools and the teaching of Pancasila. It is obvious that moral education will instill good behavior in our children, who are the next generation and future leaders of the natio
