Education forum delayed over cash

JAKARTA: An education conference has been postponed indefinitely partly due to a lack of money, organizers have said.

Chairman of the National Education Conference's organizing committee, Endro Sumarjo, said only a small part of the Rp 600 million (US$63,800) needed to finance the conference had been received by the committee to date.

The event was scheduled to take place from May 25 through May 27 in Jakarta, with representatives from the provinces and overseas experts being expected to attend.

Endro said an overseas trip by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono next week had also played a role in the delay. The President had been expected to deliver the keynote speech.

The conference, before its delay, was being jointly organized by the National Resilience Institute and the Prosperous Indonesia Awakening Assembly mass organization. -- Antara
