Education develops understanding

I expect you will receive an avalanche of letters about Masli Arman's article of July 30. If most of what he said had not been so sickening, his assertion toward the end that he is not narrow- minded or chauvinistic would be hilarious. As would his justification for this claim -- that he obtained his degrees in Australia.

It is tempting to believe that education can be a major factor in developing an understanding, harmonious, tolerant and mature society.

Although my ethnic background should not matter at all, I will, for Mr. Arman's benefit, tell you that I am an indigenous Indonesian.
