Edhi meets Irwanto in league final

JAKARTA: Grand Master (GM) Edhi Handoko will take on FIDE Master (FM) Irwanto Sadikin in the final of the Gunadarma Chess League here on Saturday.

Edhi beat Susanto Megaranto 2.5-1.5 in the semifinals match, which went to a playoff, on Friday. The two players were tied 1-1 after completing two games of classic chess.

In another two games of rapid chess, Edhi defeated his junior 1.5-0.5, with Susanto blundering in the second, according to the organizing committee.

In the other semifinals match, Irwanto stopped Johan Gunawan 1.5-0.5. Edhi and Irwanto will fight for the top prizes of Rp 8 million as well as a tour package to Vietnam next month for a World Cup qualifying tournament.--JP
