Ecstasy dealer gets 14 months

JAMBI, Jambi: The district court here sentenced a man to 14 months in jail yesterday for possessing 1,612 ecstasy pills.

The sentence handed down to Edwin, alias Acin bin Awai, 53, was six months shorter than that demanded by prosecutor Tarmizi Amtha.

In its verdict, the council of judges said Acin was found in possession of the drugs without an official permit when he was arrested on March 9, 1997, Antara reported.

In a previous session, Acin admitted to buying the 1,612 pills, 912 of which were found in his briefs, from a certain Apin at Raja Mas discotheque in West Jakarta.

Acin was arrested on his way to an amusement center in Jambi where it is thought he would sell the tablets. (pan)
