EC envoy to visit Indonesia

JAKARTA (JP): European Commissioner for trade Pascal Lamy will visit Indonesia and Singapore from Thursday to Saturday to obtain support for a new round of WTO negotiations and to explain the European Union's position, according to a press statement.

The statement said that Lamy would meet President Abdurrahman Wahid and other senior economic ministers during his visit in Jakarta.

In Singapore, the Commissioner is scheduled to meet with Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and several cabinet members.

The European Commission is one of the key institutions of the European Union and acts as its executive body. The Commission is in charge of the European Union's common commercial policy and represents the European Union at the WTO and other international trade fora.(rei)
