East Java to get 12 train cars

SURABAYA: The East Java Transportation Agency will soon receive 12 new train cars from the Ministry of Transportation, a senior government official said on Saturday.

The cars would be run on a number of rail lines that are soon to be opened in East Java province, including the Surabaya-Gresik-Lamongan-Babat, Surabaya-Sidoarjo-Tarik- Mojokerto, Madiun-Ponorogo and Lawang-Kepanjen lines, said the director of the East Java Transportation Agency, Harry Sugiri.

The train cars were made in China.

The opening of the new lines is aimed at overcoming traffic congestion along major highways in densely populated East Java province. -- Antara
