Earthquake shooks Ambon

AMBON, Maluku: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter
scale shook Ambon and its surrounding areas for several minutes
yesterday morning.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or severe damage
as a result of the quake, which, according to Antara, began at
10:49 a.m.

Head of the Ambon Geophysics Office, Subardjo, said the
epicenter of the quake was believed to be 33 kilometers under the
Banda Sea, some 50 kilometers southwest of Ambon Island.
