Earthquake shakes Palu

PALU, Central Sulawesi: An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale shook Palu and the Donggala and Tolitoli regencies early Sunday morning, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said.

The Jakarta chapter of the Agency reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was 91 kilometers below sea level in Tomini Bay, located about 103 kilometers northeast of Donggala.

Residents panicked and ran out of their homes when the quake hit at around 5:46 a.m., Antara reported.

However, as of Monday there were no reports of casualties or serious material damage.

"Up until Monday afternoon we have yet to receive reports of losses due to the earthquake," Adj. Comr. Soemartono of the Donggala Police said.(04)
