Earthquake damages nine buildings

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Nine buildings were damaged during a moderate earthquake in Kualin and Kuanfatu districts in South Central Timor regency here on Monday morning.

The damage included two schools and two churches, said Fransiscus Salim, the secretary to East Nusa Tenggara's Disaster Mitigation Agency, on Tuesday.

"No fatalities were found after the quake, because when the earthquake hit the areas, people were mostly outside," said Salim.

Deputy Regent of South Central Timor regency, Pieter Lobo, said that the government would soon begin delivering food and building materials to the people and organizations whose buildings were damaged by the earthquake, which measured 5.6 on the Richter scale. -- JP
