E. Timor riots cost PT Pos Rp 5.5b

BANDUNG: The rampages in East Timor last year have inflicted a Rp 5.5 billion (US$743.243) financial loss to the state postal company PT Pos Indonesia, its management announced on Thursday.

Quoting a report from the Development Finance Controller (BPKP), the company director Alinafiah said the losses accrued from the company's assets, including office buildings and inventory vehicles, which were destroyed during the mayhem that followed the Aug. 30 self-determination ballot in East Timor.

Separately, the company's spokesman M. Sabaruddin, said several units of computer, Rp 800 million high-tech equipment, Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) unit, 10 cars, a truck, and 21 motorcycles were managed to be saved during the mayhem, the company's spokesman M. Sabarudin said. (25/emf)
