E. Timor riots cost PT Pos Rp 5.5b

BANDUNG: The rampages in East Timor last year have inflicted a
Rp 5.5 billion (US$743.243) financial loss to the state postal
company PT Pos Indonesia, its management announced on Thursday.

Quoting a report from the Development Finance Controller
(BPKP), the company director Alinafiah said the losses accrued
from the company's assets, including office buildings and
inventory vehicles, which were destroyed during the mayhem that
followed the Aug. 30 self-determination ballot in East Timor.

Separately, the company's spokesman M. Sabaruddin, said
several units of computer, Rp 800 million high-tech equipment,
Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) unit, 10 cars, a truck, and
21 motorcycles were managed to be saved during the mayhem, the
company's spokesman M. Sabarudin said. (25/emf)
