E. Timor produces ten doctors

DILI, East Timor: During the 19 years since its integration into Indonesia, the province has produced ten medical doctors.

The number may not be great, but it is impressive compared to none during the 450 years of Portuguese's colonization of the territory, according to one of the doctors.

Doctor Maria Aurelia Soares told the Antara news agency yesterday that all of the doctors now work in various regencies of the province.

Soares, who was the first East Timorese doctor, said she experienced the Portuguese colonial rule and knows of the poor conditions the East Timorese had to go through during the time. (swe)
