E. Timor bishops leave for Vatican
DILI, East Timor: Bishop Carlos Felipe Ximenes Belo and Bishop
Basilio do Nascimento, of the Dili and Baucau dioceses
respectively, will attend an Asian bishop conference in Vatican
City from April 18 to April 30, Antara reported yesterday.
Pope John Paul II will open the conference, said Belo at
Comoro Airport here minutes before he and Nascimento left for
Rome.
The two bishops are expected to discuss the Dili and Baucau
dioceses, which have yet to become members of the Jakarta-based
Bishop Council of Indonesia (KWI).
Other Indonesian bishops taking part in the meeting will also
discuss various problems facing the Indonesian church in the two-
week conference, which is aimed to prepare Asian churches for the
new millennium.
