E-mail/voice communication without computer

By Lim Tri Santosa

BANDUNG (JP): Are you still using HotMail? Wake up! Phase it out and get into today's new Internet leader, HotVoice. Similar to members of HotMail and Yahoo, HotVoice members also enjoy a life-long free e-mail mailbox.

What distinguishes the HotVoice mailbox from the others is that it is the most advanced unified mailbox in the world. It is the only electronic mailbox that unifies free web-based e-mail messages and international/domestic voice and fax messages without incurring expensive international/domestic telephone charges.

HotVoice's global infrastructure is based upon communication hubs in 45 countries (including Indonesia) with local gateway numbers, allowing users to receive voicemail and faxes from around the world for the price of a local call. Communicating with someone on another continent via any device at such a low cost is not just the future, but is now a reality. Subscribers can make phone calls from anywhere in the world using PC-to-PC, phone-to-PC, phone-to-phone.

At this time, I would like to introduce HotVoice's free phone- to-phone service. I will reveal how to send and retrieve voice/email/fax only by using the telephone (not computer with the Internet). Unfortunately, the benefit of this service is only available for Jakarta residents, since residents of other cities will incur a long-distance call charge dialing the HotVoice gateway phone number in Jakarta.

Subscribers to HotVoice.com get a free, private, unified mailbox, which seamlessly incorporates voice mail, fax and email. HotVoice.com's worldwide distribution network enables users to send voice/email/fax messages to subscribers' mailboxes through a local phone call via HotVoice gateways, thus providing cost savings for international communications. Subscribers of HotVoice.com can retrieve all types of messages through not only by web, but also through local telephones.

When you first time sign up for the HotVoice account, you will be asked to choose a specific HotVoice account number. The HotVoice account number consists of country code (62 if you pick Indonesia), area code (area code of city where you live) and your phone number. Your HotVoice account number also will be your HotVoice e-mail address (xxxxxxxxx@hotvoice.com).

Basically you can choose any country, any area code number any phone number as long as no other members use that number. I suggest that you use your telephone number as your account number for a simple reason: it's easy to remember. Your account number is how you access your messages over the phone. Also, other people will be using this number to leave messages and faxes in your mailbox. If you use your phone number, which people already know, its one less number that your friends and colleagues will have to remember.

You can start using your account within a few minutes of completing the registration process! This is important: after you log on to your account, go to options menu, then choose "Local Phone Retrieval", pick Jakarta as your local phone gateway. However, it will take up to one day for your account number to be distributed to all gateways worldwide. So you might have to wait a day to be able to receive voice and fax messages from HotVoice's worldwide gateways.

From now on, all of the voice/fax messages you receive in your mailbox will be forwarded to the Jakarta gateway.

If you want to change your phone retrieval location, you have to disable the current phone retrieval location setting first, then select a new city where you want to retrieve your voice/fax messages. This is an important feature for anyone who wants local phone access while traveling in another country or region. You can check an entire list of HotVoice's local gateway phone numbers in 45 countries worldwide (see http://hotvoice.com/en/cities/list.asp).

You don't need to become a HotVoice member if you just want to send voice and fax. All you need is the recipient's HotVoice number! But if you want to receive voice/fax by phone and send email, it's better you register as a HotVoice member.

Here is a sample example: call 021-45847014 follow the instructions, enter my HotVoice number 6221007007 (easy to remember 62=Indonesia country code, 21=Jakarta area code, Double James Bond = 007007). All you have to do is leave your voice message. When you hang up, an email notification will automatically be sent to my mobile phone via SMS that I have a a voice message from Jakarta. You can configure HotVoice to notify you through your GSM mobile phone whenever you receive voicemail, so you will never miss an important message again. It uses SMS, so please read my previous article, Receiving Email Notification Alerts with SMS (The Jakarta Post, Aug. 14, 2000).

With such a complete infrastructure, HotVoice is closing the gap that previously restricted global communications. No matter who you are, where you are, what phone number you use, this service is available and effective for everyone in the world for the price of a local call. HotVoice brings together all local, regional and international communications in a single location.

Further, HotVoice maximizes productivity, cost-savings, convenience and flexibility for individuals and businesses worldwide, in both Internet-enabled and telephone environments.
