E. Kalimantan bans foreign names

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Deputy Governor Suwarna A.F. yesterday told local officials to put their feet down and set Aug. 17 as the deadline for shops and entertainment centers to replace signs or billboards in foreign languages with ones in Indonesian.

Suwarno admitted that officials in the province had been slow in enforcing the regulation to use Indonesian names for signs.

"In Jakarta, the officials would immediately paint over signs still using foreign names," he said as quoted by Antara.(mds)
