Dutchman sleeps in the fast lane

The Hague (DPA): Life in the fast lane was one big yawn for a 72-year-old Dutchman who police yesterday said drove for several kilometers down a motorway in the Netherlands while fast asleep.

Newspaper reports said the man was blissfully ignorant of his erratic progress along the highway as his car swerved from the hard shoulder to the overtaking lane and back again.

The man also ignored numerous wildly gesticulating motorists who sounded their horns and flashed lights in a bid to warn him.

The dozer awoke with a jolt when his car crashed into a lorry but no one was injured. Police said the man would be fined.
