Dutch musicians charm city audience

TANGERANG (JP): A group of Dutch musicians charmed an audience of 150 people at Yayasan Musik Jakarta music school here on Sunday.

The four-member Camerata Trajectina ensemble which specializes in 16th and 17th century Dutch music presented works by Corneliszoon Hooft, Constantijn Huygens and Jacob van Eyck among others.

The ensemble, which was founded in 1974, combined vocal and traditional instruments including the lute, recorder, viol and cittern.

The audience were delighted when two members of the ensemble played Music for two viol players, a work by Tobias Hume but played on a single viol.

The concert, jointly organized by Erasmus Huis and Yayasan Musik Jakarta, was held to mark the opening of the school on Jalan Letnan Sutopo at Bumi Serpong Damai, the fourth branch of the school in town.

Dr. Kuei Pin Yeo, noted pianist and head of the school said she planned to organize a monthly concert at Bumi Serpong Damai school. The next concert will be held on June 3 and will be dedicated specially for children. (hbk)
