Dutch envoy leaves RI
JAKARTA: Netherlands Ambassador to Indonesia Rudolf Jan Treffers left Indonesia recently after completing his tenure here, a Dutch embassy official said.
Ambassador Treffers, who submitted his credentials to president Megawati Soekarnoputri on Feb. 13, 2003, was an experienced and active diplomat, observers said.
"Ambassador left Indonesia last week just after the end of our Foreign Minister Bernard Bot's visit to Indonesia," embassy spokeswoman Usha Gopie told The Jakarta Post.
During his stay in Jakarta, Treffers represented the European Union (EU) presidency in Jakarta for a record 18 months on behalf of the Netherlands, Ireland and Luxembourg. Normally, country representatives hold the EU presidency for single six-month periods.
Ireland and Luxembourg do not have diplomatic missions in Indonesia. -- JP
