Drugs seized at discos

JAKARTA (JP): Police confiscated more than 100 illegal drugs and arrested dozens of people in raids on three discotheques in West and Central Jakarta on Friday.

City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang confirmed the seizure of 94 Ecstasy pills and 17 marijuana cigarettes from 44 patrons arrested at the three discotheques.

Aritonang said the discotheques were the Domino in Gambir, Central Jakarta, the Zodiac in Glodok and the Kaliber in Kota, both in West Jakarta.

The Kaliber had also been raided the previous Friday, Aritonang said Saturday.

A few hours before the raid on the Zodiac, a young woman, identified as Eka, 22, collapsed and was taken to Husada hospital, Central Jakarta, where she died. An overdose of Ecstasy is suspected to have killed her.

But Aritonang said the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital had not determined the cause of death. (04)
