Drugs, fake notes destroyed in Bogor

BOGOR (JP): A total of 715 bank notes comprising fake Rp
10,000, Rp 20,000 and Rp 50,000 bills along with 2 kilograms of
marijuana and 3,045 illegal and prescription-only pills were
destroyed by the Cibinong Prosecutors office here on Tuesday.

Head of the General Crime section of the office, Udjijono,
said his department had uncovered 11 cases involving counterfeit
notes and 14 drug-related cases since January 1997.

"Destruction of the evidence was obtained with a legal permit
from the Cibinong District Court," he said.

Burning of the material took place on a sports field in front
of Udjijono's office.

The counterfeit notes comprised 238 Rp 10,000 notes, 469 Rp
20,000 bills and eight Rp 50,000 notes.

The drugs included 40 Ecstasy pills and some 3,000 sleeping
pills of various brand-names, such as Nipam (2,331 pills), BK
(309), RN (76) and BJ (88).

Head of the prosecutors office M. Sadar Sellang said
destruction of the seized evidence was aimed at showing the
public the seriousness of his staff to cope with criminal
activity in the jurisdiction.(21/bsr)
