Drug dealer gets 20 years

BOGOR: The Cibinong District Court sentenced on Monday a drug dealer to 20 years in prison.

The defendant, Iskandar, alias Abi Mustapa, 38, was convicted of selling 8.5 kilograms of marijuana in Bogor and the West Java capital of Bandung.

Presiding judge Yu Kartikawati also fined the defendant Rp 2 million (US$243).

The sentence was harsher than the 15 years in prison requested by prosecutor Mumun Marliah.

The court will soon deliver verdicts in the trials of two of Iskandar's alleged accomplices, Asep Jamaludin and Nana Sumpena, who were arrested on Nov. 20, 2002 and are being tried separately.

The three defendants claimed that the marijuana belonged to Sinas, alias Yakub, who is still at large. --JP
