Drug circulation in Tangerang alarming

TANGERANG (JP): The presence of drugs in seven out of 26 districts in Tangerang regency is becoming alarming, with users comprising mostly students and youths, regent Agus Djunara warned on Tuesday.

Agus said drugs circulating in the seven districts, namely Cikupa, Balaraja, Serpong, Kosambi, Pondok Aren, Ciputat and Pamulang, had reached small villages.

"It's hard to imagine our future human resources will consist of drug addicts," Agus said, worrying that the escalating presence of drugs would lead to an increase of crime in the districts.

The regent was addressing participants of a training and dissemination program on drugs, attended by some 700 participants, mostly youths, community leaders and district chiefs.

Agus said many youths, including those from poor families, were using and dealing drugs in the districts.

He also told participants in the program that it was everybody's responsibility to eliminate the circulation of drugs. (08)
