Drought hits Demak

DEMAK, Central Java: Thousand of hectares of crops here have
dried out because of the prolonged drought which is ravaging the
area.

Many farmers have failed to grow their crops because of a
water shortage. The hardest-hit areas include Guntur, Mranggen,
Karangawen and Karanganyar districts.

A number of farmers said yesterday that they thought the
drought would last quite a long time. (har)
