Drivers rally over dead friend

BANDUNG, West Java: More than 100 city bus drivers went on strike on Monday in a show of solidarity over the death of a driver who died in a fist fight with a soldier last week.

City buses serving several routes in the West Java capital city, Bandung, stopped operating, as more than 100 drivers went on strike and others staged a rally before the Siliwangi Military Police Detachment compound.

They demanded that First Pvt. Gusti Marias be punished for causing the death of bus driver Ginting Munthe, 59, on Thursday last week.

Ginting died following a heart attack in a fist fight Gusti provoked after Ginting's bus accidentally bumped into his motorcycle.

Siliwangi Military Police commander Col. CPM Darmadi said that Gusti was in detention and faced a possible 15 years in prison if he was found guilty of the assault. -- JP
