Dream Team wins in simultaneous chess

JAKARTA (JP): Young chess players grouped in the Dream Team of
the Utut Adianto Chess School beat 20 seniors in a simultaneous
chess event at the Indonesian Christian University (UKI) complex
in Cawang, East Jakarta, on Saturday.

Susanto Megaranto, 14, won 15-5, Taufik Halay, 14, won 20-0
and Andrean Susilodinata, 11, won 19.5-0.5. Among their opponents
were the East Jakarta mayor, East Jakarta police chief, top
officials, students from the UKI and members of the local
community.

UKI's assistant rector for student affairs, Adrianus Siregar,
expressed his astonishment at the youngsters' victory when
closing the event, which capped a three-month chess festival at
the university.

"I'm impressed with the young chess players, who have great
self-confidence in facing opponents who are so much bigger in
size than them," he said, adding that the festival would take
place again next year. (ivy)
