Drag race stopped

JAKARTA (JP): A drag race in the broad street in the former
Kemayoran airport ground was suspended yesterday after a car
veered off track and into the spectators' area.

Four spectators and four members of a crew team were injured,
witnesses said.

The accident is the third in the same place this year.

The race was organized by the Jakarta branch of the Indonesian
Motor Association (IMI).

"IMI should take punitive measures against its Jakarta branch
for allowing a race to run on a track which does not provide safe
stands for spectators," Rio Sarwono, an official of the Sentul
circuit management, said. (amd)
