DPR's code of ethics

From Merdeka

We heartily welcome the idea to establish a code of ethics and an advisory council for the House of Representatives (DPR), because it must be based on the intention to improve the image of this institution whose role and function have so far been found wanting. There are even DPR members who have tarnished the respected institution.

Nevertheless, in my opinion it is more important not to establish a code of ethics but to find ways to encourage the DPR members to adhere strictly and continuously to their oath of office. The code of ethics itself is a set of moral values in accordance with the culture of a religious nation which finds expression in the attitude and behavior of its people.

There are three things which must be heeded by the DPR members in fulfilling their tasks:

1. DPR members have been selected from society not only based on their intellectuality and activities, but on their moral behavior.

2. Before being admitted to the House of Representatives, the members take a pledge of office.

3. In their work members follow the regulations for DPR members.

Thus, if DPR members strictly adhere to the above, the three points are adequate to serve as pointers, so that the DPR as a respected institution can maintain its credibility.
