DPD establishes antigraft body

JAKARTA: The Regional Representatives Council (DPD) has announced the establishment of an anticorruption caucus in a bid to help crack down on corruption cases in the provinces they represent.

One of the ten initiators, DPD deputy speaker Laode Ida said on Wednesday the caucus would include reports from anticorruption organizations, specifically provincial reports, and would follow up on the reports through its own mechanisms or through the House of Representatives.

The caucus also will put pressure on the government to quickly suspend provincial and regency officials proven guilty of corruption as part of its antigraft campaign.

The DPD consists of 128 representatives, four from each province in the country. -- JP
