Dozens protest cemetery development

BOGOR: Dozens of villagers from Babakan Pasir Kalong, Cariu district in Bogor regency, visited the local council on Wednesday to protest against the development of a cemetery, which they said had cut off their water.

They claimed that the Cibaregbeg river, on which they relied for their water, had been clogged up by soil waste from the Nirwana Cemetery project, which is to be used for ethnic Chinese burials.

As a result, thousands of people were being forced to walk around one kilometer to fetch clean water.

According to the protesters, because of the project around 150 hectares of rice fields were now dry.--JP
