Dozens of foreign fishermen arrested

SORONG, Irian Jaya: The authorities have arrested 64 Filipinos and impounded six fishing boats for illegal fishing, Antara reported.

Lt. Col. A.T. Aprianto, chief of the Sorong naval base, said here recently that the Filipinos and their ships and 3 tons of fish were being held in the naval base to wait for trial.

The fishermen were arrested on April 18, when the Navy's KRI Teluk Jakarta was patrolling off Mor Island, Maluku, he said.
