Dozens faint at 'Westlife' concert

JAKARTA (JP): The five-member boyband Westlife stunned a sea of thousands of teenage girls at Senayan Sports Hall in Central Jakarta on Monday evening.

The 6,000-seat capacity hall was filled with the hysterical screams of girls shortly after the five Irish boys appeared onstage.

About 30 to 40 of the young patrons fainted and were rushed for first-aid treatment at the back of auditorium.

During the concert, which is part of the band's Westlife Asian Tour, group members Shane, Kian, Bryan, Nicky, and Mark -- all between 20 and 22 -- sang their hits Swear It Again, If I Let You Go, Flying Without Wings and I Have A Dream.

Some of the group's crazed fans struggled to reach the stage. Those in the middle of the crowd screamed out the names of their idols while holding up posters of them.

Prior to the appearance of Westlife, the audience was entertained by two groups: Cool Colors from Indonesia and Trademark from Germany.

The show started around 6:30 p.m. and lasted for three hours. (msa/ylt)
