Dozens arrested for timber thefts

SEMARANG: Police on Tuesday confiscated more than 3,000 cubic meters of teak wood in three Central Java districts and arrested dozens of people suspected of stealing and receiving the stolen timber, Antara reported.

In an operation code-named Wana Candi, the police also found stolen teak wood in the home of a Plangitan village official in Pati district. Twenty three people were arrested during the operation in Grobogan district, including six members of the Armed Forces.

Police also confiscated six trucks used for transporting the looted timber.

In Blora, police confiscated thousands of cubic meters of teak wood, dozens of chainsaws, 11 trucks and dozens of motorcycles belonging to the thieves.
